Custom Actors

Create your own AI actors from any face photo. Custom actors work the same as built-in ones and stay consistent across all your generations. This is useful for branding, recurring characters, or using real people as references.

Creating a Custom Actor

Use melies ref create to generate a custom actor from any image URL. The image should be a clear face photo. Melies will process it and create a reusable reference you can use across all commands.

Parameters

<label>Name for this reference (e.g. "John", "My Character")
-i, --imageUrlPublic image URL of the face photo (default: required)
-t, --typeReference type: actor or object (default: actor)

Best results

Use a high-quality, well-lit face photo with a neutral expression. Front-facing portraits work best. Avoid group photos or heavily cropped images.

Using Custom Actors

Once your reference is ready, use it with the --ref flag on any generation command. Pass the reference ID returned by melies ref list.

Custom actors use the --ref flag (not --actor). The --actor flag is for built-in actors only.

Deleting References

Remove a custom actor or object reference you no longer need.

Object References

References aren't limited to actors. You can also save objects, props, clothes, or any visual element for reuse across generations. Use -t object when creating the reference.
