Object POV

Narrative function

Agency leaves the invisible observer and goes to a machine or a thing. A fork of a bicycle stays in the corner while cobbles rush.

A car body is fixed and the desert tears past. A phone slides across a table toward a face.

Sports broadcasts have lived here for decades (puck, stump, helmet). The motion is tactile because the mount cannot independently decide to drift.

It is not First-Person, which is a human body with hands and breath. It is not a free drone that happens to start near a prop.

If the anchor object wanders inside the frame, the parent is broken.

How it works

Use a professionally secured mount or a rigid virtual parent transform on the named object. Include a visible part of the anchor (barrel, rubber, chrome, glass edge).

Preserve vibration that belongs to the object; do not add a second operator path. Lens choice is often wide because the mount is close.

Prompt: object POV as if [Subject] were seen from a tool, a ball, a bullet, a phone: the thing looking.

When to use it

Use it when the prop has eyes: a weapon, a vehicle, a thrown thing, a camera that is diegetic. Concrete beat: viewpoint from a phone sliding toward a face, the phone's bezel fixed at the frame edge.

Do not use it as a pretty fly-around that ignores the object.

Compared with similar shots

First-Person is a human body owning the lens. Point of View is a character's optical insert, usually without a gadget rim.

Locked-On glues a subject in frame while the world streams; object-POV is looking from the object, often with the object as foreground. Trunk Shot is a pit people open, not a tool in flight.

FPV Drone is a flying body of its own.

In film

Mad Max: Fury Road keeps parts of pursuing machines fixed while the desert tears past. Leviathan (2012) mounts cameras on fishing equipment and bodies at sea so the work, not an observer, sees.

Sports broadcasts use puck and vehicle mounts as the same grammar. Hardcore Henry inserts gadget viewpoints inside an otherwise human first-person film.

Prompt it

Name the object and keep it fixed in frame. Quote: Object POV as if [Subject] were seen from a tool, a ball, a bullet, a phone: the thing looking.

What usually goes wrong

The usual wrong cousin is First-Person (human hands) or a free-flying camera. Tell: breath and fingers, or the phone drifting around inside the shot.

Fix: parent the camera to the named prop, show the prop's edge, keep that edge locked. If people open a lid and look in, you wanted Trunk Shot.
