Crime, conscience, a city that judges: one practical in the deep, smoke optional, contrast as law. The viral-named version of film-noir grammar.

It can stay silver, or go wet neon if you say so. A sitcom kitchen does not want venetian blinds unless the joke is noir.

It is the wrong tool when the key is soft and the blacks are mush. That is moody, not noir.

If you wanted color-era melancholy, say neo-noir.

When to use it

A crime beat, a conscience still, a city that judges. Do not use it as a soft dark grade, and do not use it in a sitcom kitchen unless the joke is the blinds.

Film Noir is the 1940s crime language this preset compresses. Neo-Noir adds color-era neon and later tech.

Noir as a named recipe is the wet street, the gobo, the hard key. If the blacks are mush, you shot moody, not this.
