Triangular Composition
Triangular composition arranges subjects or visual masses into a triangle so three points lock the frame. A group gets a hierarchy: the apex is usually power, witness, or the object of desire, and the base is support, threat, or the audience inside the picture.
Narrative function
Two people and a desk, a family and a doorway, three men and a gun: the triangle tells you who sits at the top of the diagram. Renaissance blocking taught this before cinema.
The camera inherited the altar. It is the wrong tool for a true two-hander that should be a flat axis, or for a crowd that has no hierarchy.
Forcing a triangle onto two people plus a plant is a fake court. The apex can be low (a child, a corpse, a briefcase) and still run the picture.
