Earth Zoom

Narrative function

Start from the planet. Introduce a person as a point on Earth, or punch a joke from cosmos to porch.

Landmarks should shrink in order: cloud, coast, grid, roof, face. Once per film is plenty.

A conversation does not need the planet. A generic aerial that never reaches the person is not this.

A crash zoom that starts on a rooftop is not this. Keep identity stable from wide to tight or the face at the end is a stranger.

How it works

Design nested environments and scale transitions in 3D or compositing. Preserve direction and visual anchors.

Name the start as satellite or stratosphere, the end as eyes or feet, the path as one continuous zoom. Do not add a pan or an orbit on the way down.

Prompt: Earth zoom into [Subject], satellite to street in one rush, the planet collapsing into a face.

When to use it

Use it to place a person on Earth in one rush, or as a scale gag. Do not use it to open a dialogue scene.

Begin on a dew drop on one leaf. Pull backward continuously through the garden, neighborhood, coastline and cloud layer, ending above the planet. Keep one coherent outward axis, smooth logarithmic-feeling changes in scale and consistent daylight. Build as matched scale segments with composited handoffs; no random galaxy substitutions.

What usually goes wrong

The usual wrong cousin is a generic aerial or a rooftop crash zoom. The tell: you cannot feel continents, or the face at the end is a new person.

The fix: start at orbit, collapse nested scales in order, keep identity.
