Narrative function

Titles, stop-motion paper, a figure that has been scissored from stock: hard or window light that shows the edge of the sheet, fibers in the tear. Collage stacks pieces.

Paper is the material of the whole world. It is the wrong tool when the paper is neatly folded into facets, and the wrong tool when the person is simply standing in a library.

Show the cut and the fiber.

How it works

Eye height, 35mm to 50mm, lock-off. Light that rakes the tooth of the stock.

When to use it

A title still, a cut-out figure, a world that is stock. Do not use it as origami, and do not use it as a person holding a sheet as a prop.

Origami is lawful creases and planar sculpture. Collage is assembled pieces.

Paper is torn pulp as the world, a cut-out on fibers. If the edges are folded, you wanted origami.

The Tale of the Princess Kaguya treats paper and pencil as living stock. Stop-motion paper titles and cut-out shorts are the well-known use.
