Narrative function

Punches, reveals, a joke that should look published and stolen: subject mid-gesture, one color spot, no balloons. Comic gives you the page.

This adds a white bang as a panel border of light. It is the wrong tool for a hush portrait, and the wrong tool if you only flash a photograph with no ink.

If there is no print law, you shot paparazzi. If there is no strobe, you shot comic.

How it works

Eye height, 35mm to 50mm, lock-off at mid-gesture. Inked edges, halftone, hard on-camera flash burst, one color spot.

When to use it

A punch, a reveal, a published theft of a moment. Do not use it on a quiet study, and do not add balloons.

Compared with similar shots

Comic is the page without the bang. 2000s Paparazzi is the strobe without the ink.

Flash comic is both in one hit. If you can delete the flash and keep the look, you wanted comic.

Dick Tracy's print faces can take a strobe. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse supplies the print language you may wear as a grade, not copy as a frame.
