Timelapse Landscape

Narrative function

Use it when the story is a sky, a desert, a city grid as climate, a ridge that must survive several suns. The camera is locked or on a slow, even move that does not fight the sun's path.

Buildings and rock stay solid. Clouds are the motion.

It is the wrong tool for wardrobe process, a still hero in a smoking crowd, or undercranked acting. If the camera walks the avenue in steps, you wanted a hyperlapse.

If only headlights streak under a stuck sun, you have not shown a landscape day.

How it works

Choose interval from the process (clouds faster than a shadow-day, stars slower). Lock off or use a motion-control pan.

Ramp exposure for day-to-night. Keep the sun's arc continuous.

Prompt: Timelapse landscape around [Subject] or their place, clouds and shadows sweeping, hours in seconds.

When to use it

Use it to show the day turning over a ridge, a square, or a citadel. Do not use it as a crowd recipe with a motionless sky.

Compared with similar shots

This is Time-Lapse aimed at weather and terrain. Aerial may carry it if the viewpoint is high, but height is not the interval.

In film

Baraka and Koyaanisqatsi are the landscape-and-city interval grammar: clouds, shadows, and human systems at non-human rates. Later nature films inherit the same sun-and-cloud contract.

The still should imply a phase of day, not a morphing mountain.

What usually goes wrong

The usual wrong cousin is Fast Motion or Timelapse Human. The tell is racing people under a stuck sun, or mountains that melt.

Fix: hours in seconds, traveling shadows, solid ground, camera stable or slowly authored.
