Narrative function

Someone leaves the floor and stays. The room does not drop away.

The camera often holds so we can read the air under the shoes. Use it when weight is optional and the performance should still look human: a takeoff, an apex, a landing.

It is the wrong tool for a fall. If the body is going down, even slowly, you want a floating fall.

If the camera itself is dropping, you want falling.

How it works

Support the performer on wires, a crane, or a hidden platform, then remove the rig in a clean plate. Keep a hard side-key so the gap under the feet is visible.

Cloth and hair hang downward because gravity still acts on fabric. Specify launch, trajectory, apex, and landing rather than a vague request to fly.

Prompt levitation of the subject: body or object refusing gravity, a quiet impossible hover, no visible support.

When to use it

Use it for the beat when a person hangs in a room, on a rooftop, or over a street and the hover is the fact. Do not use it for a drop that must still feel like disaster.

Compared with similar shots

Falling drops the camera or the body with real weight, ground rising. Bullet Time orbits a pose that is frozen in time.

Levitation is a sustained hover with a living performance. Floating Fall still goes down.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon keeps human effort inside rooftop and bamboo flight. The Matrix suspends combat so a body can hang and strike.

Prompt it

Name the gap under the feet, the hang of cloth, and takeoff or landing if they exist.

A fictional acrobat crosses between two low rooftops in one graceful extended leap. Clear push-off, smooth rising arc, brief suspension and weighted landing with knees absorbing impact. Loose fabric follows the body with delay. Fixed wide camera, consistent architecture, no teleportation or rubber limbs.

What usually goes wrong

The usual wrong cousin is a balloon hover or a fall shot in slow motion. The tell is missing takeoff and landing, rubber limbs, or cloth that floats as if underwater.

The fix is a readable gap, downward hang of fabric, and a human push-off or settle.
